About This Role
I-Swipe Technologies is looking for a Senior PHP Developer to join our growing engineering team. You will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining the backend systems that power our products — including KitPoint, our WhatsApp-first cashless checkout platform, and the I-Swipe Academy learning management system.
This is a hands-on role where you will write clean, scalable PHP code, architect database structures, and collaborate closely with our frontend developers, product managers, and business team to ship features that directly impact thousands of users across Nigeria.
Responsibilities:
- Design and build robust, secure PHP applications and RESTful APIs
- Write clean, well-documented, and testable code following best practices
- Architect and optimise MySQL database schemas for performance and scalability
- Integrate third-party services including payment gateways (Paystack, Flutterwave), WhatsApp Business API, and SMS providers
- Review code from junior developers and provide constructive feedback
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, bugs, and security vulnerabilities
- Collaborate with the product team to translate business requirements into technical solutions
- Participate in sprint planning, standups, and technical architecture discussions
- Maintain and improve existing codebases, ensuring backward compatibility
- Write and maintain technical documentation for systems and APIs
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional PHP development experience
- Strong understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) principles
- Proficiency with MySQL — complex queries, indexing, and query optimisation
- Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs
- Solid understanding of web security — SQL injection, XSS, CSRF, authentication
- Experience with version control using Git and GitHub
- Familiarity with Linux/Unix server environments
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of features end-to-end
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English
Nice to Have:
- Experience with Laravel or other PHP frameworks
- Knowledge of JavaScript and frontend technologies (HTML, CSS, React)
- Experience integrating Nigerian payment gateways (Paystack, Flutterwave)
- Familiarity with WhatsApp Business API or chatbot development
- Experience working in a startup or fast-paced product environment
